ABOUT THIS SITE (From www.therainforestsite.com)
The Rainforest Site is proud to introduce its new owners, Tim Kunin and Greg Hesterberg, co-owners of EcologyFund.com. Long-time friends and activists, they bought The Rainforest Site in mid-August of 2001. Greg and Tim are dedicated to restoring and maintaining the site's position as a leader in online activism and a dynamic force in the race preserve the earths endangered rainforests and other imperiled habitats.
Originally launched in May 2000, The Rainforest Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific ecological need -- the preservation of the worlds rainforests. Individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the "Save Our Rainforests" button and help rescue imperiled land. In just its first year of operation, The Rainforest Site generated funds to purchase and preserve over 5,650 acres of endangered land.
Land preservation, made possible by funds raised at The Rainforest Site, is paid for by site sponsors and carried out by The Nature Conservancy, The Rainforest Conservation Fund, The World Parks Endowment, and The Friends of Calakmul. These organizations work to preserve rainforest land in Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay and other locations worldwide. In a addition a portion of funding goes to preserve old-growth forest in the state of Washington, USA.
ABOUT THE OWNERS OF THE SITE (From www.therainforestsite.com)
Long-time environmental activists, Tim Kunin and Greg Hesterberg met at the University of Michigan while working on the Michigan Bottle Bill ballot campaign in 1976. In the late 1990s, they recognized that broad consumer-adoption of the Internet offered a new opportunity to raise funds for good causes, which led them to found CharityMall.com, LLC, a cause-related shopping portal. As enthusiastic supporters of The Hunger Site, they realized the power of providing busy Internet users with a fast, free and easy way to make a difference and launched EcologyFund.com to give people the means to support wilderness preservation efforts worldwide.
Tim Kunin is a lifelong lover of wilderness, who has canoed and hiked for thousands of miles in the United States, Canada, and Patagonia. He started working for environmental causes at the University of Michigan, where he walked 200 miles across the state, to publicize the need for recycling.
Greg Hesterberg was chairman of two statewide consumer and environmental organizations (MaryPIRG and PIRGIM), while in college. After 20 years running a successful publishing firm, Greg enjoys finding innovative ways to make the world a better place.
